Czyz, the No. 88-ranked prospect in the Class of 2008 by Scout.com, paid Coach K and the Blue Devils a visit in Durham, North Carolina last week. This weekend, the athletic 6-foot-7, 235-pound combo forward will visit Louisville and spend time with Rick Pitino. It will be Olek's second visit to Louisville in the past three months.
"I think that after this last weekend visiting Duke he got an idea what their program was all about and he went to Louisville earlier summer for an unofficial visit and will go out there this weekend for his official visit and probably in the next week or two will make his final decision," said Kyle Schellin, Czyz' high school coach.
call between Duke and Louisville.
"There are things that he likes about Duke that are specific to Duke and things that he likes about Louisville that are specific to Louisville," Schellin said. "With Louisville I think his thought is that Coach Pitino is a great coach and he's built a great program there, (that) they get tremendous support from the community and (that) it's a great university and place to get an education. The kids on the team, all that kind of stuff…
"He's really looking forward to this weekend to see if he can answer all of the questions that he has. And his family is going to go with him, too, so they can get a better feel for what it's going to be like there."
Might Louisville have the edge for Czyz heading down the home stretch?
"It's hard to say at this point," Schelling said. "I think they're (Duke and Louisville) pretty close actually."
Here's another factor to keep in mind: The influence of Pete and David Padgett. David, of course, is the starting center at U of L. He also happened to attend Reno HS, the same school Olek currently attends. Pete, David's father, is currently the Athletic Director at Reno High.
"Pete Padgett is someone we look up to and he has had nothing but the greatest things that you could possibly say about Coach Pitino and his program, their staff and the players on the team," Schellin said. "He's shared that experience with Olek and his family and that says a lot coming from him. He's been very supportive of Coach Pitino and the program and it's been a great situation for David. And I'm sure it would be a great situation for Olek as well."
