Swopshire sets Louisville visit

Jared Swopshire is heading down the home stretch with his recruitment. He's down to three schools with visits to Marquette and Louisville to come next month. Rick Pitino will get the last crack with the four-star forward before he makes his decision. Read what Swopshire had to say about Louisville.

Jared Swopshire, a silky smooth small forward from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has an official visit set with Louisville next month. The 6'7, 180-pound Swopshire will visit Marquette Oct. 13 before heading to Louisville the following week for his final visit.

"I visit Marquette on the (October) 13th and I'm visiting Louisville the following weekend," said Swopshire, who averaged 20 points and 7 rebounds as a junior. "I'll make my decision after my visit to Louisville. Right now I'm just trying to wait until I take all my visits and then talk with my parents and coaches (before) I make my decision."

Swopshire has already made an official visit to Clemson and he's taken an unofficial trip to Marquette. He'll finish his tour with visits to the two Big East programs.

"I'm down to those three," he said. "I've developed a good relationship with the all the coaches because I've really been communicating with them a lot, especially in the past month. I'm starting to get a feel for all of them and I have good relationships with all of them."

Rick Pitino travelled to Florida last week to check in on Swopshire. After watching him workout, Pitino offered a scholarship and made it clear he wants the highly skilled forward to be a part of his program.

"I think it's great," Swopshire said of Louisville's offer. "I'm glad they came and offered me. They were the last offer of the summer. They offered a few days ago. They came down to Kansas City to see me the last tournament we played in."

What does Swopshire like about Louisville?

"Louisville has a great tradition of winning," Swopshire said. "Rick Pitino as a coach speaks for itself. He's great at developing players and getting them to the next level and in the Class of '08 they're bring in some really good players. So they say I'd fit right in there at the wing spot."

What factors will Scout.com's No. 89-ranked prospect consider to make his college decision?

"I'm looking for a school that can go and win a national title; a school where I can go in and play and fit into their program and a school where the coach can help me develop so I can get to the next level," he said.

Originally from St. Louis, Swopshire said it would nice to find a school closer to home but it won't be a big factor in his decision.

"It is in some cases but I'm looking for the best situation," Swopshire said. "Where ever that is that's where I'm willing to go."

Swopshire will play in Louisville this season when IMG squares off against Tyreke Evans and American Christian (PA) Academy December 7 at Freedom Hall.

"I'm looking forward to that matchup. That's going to be a good game," Swopshire said.
