Tinker schedules Louisville visit

Ed Tinker, a three-star wide receiver from Pittsburgh (PA) Brashear, recently scheduled an official visit to Louisville and has the Cardinals high atop his list of favorites. Can Louisville overcome Colorado and take the lead for Tinker?

Ed Tinker, the 6-foot-1, 188-pound three-star wide receiver from Brashear High School in Pittsburgh, Pa., has been instrumental in his team's perfect 12-0 record and into the first round of the Quad A playoffs. Tinker has 25 receptions for 401 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he has four interceptions and two fumbles caused.

Tinker, ranked as Scout.com's No. 79 wide receiver, still favors Colorado slightly over Louisville, Michigan State, Iowa and West Virginia. All have offered.

"I'd like to play for a team that has some success and goes to bowl games or is at least up-and-coming," Tinker said. "I don't really care about the distance or any of that as long as I can fit in. I want to make my decision by the end of December."

He visited the Buffs on Sept. 15 and plans to visit Louisville on Dec. 1 and Michigan State on Dec. 8. Tinker also visited Minnesota on Sept. 28, but is no longer considering the Gophers. "They've only won like one or two games and don't seem to be getting any better," he said.

"Colorado (on the other hand) seems like a team that is up-and-coming," he said. "They've got a young, energetic coaching staff and they told me they really need receivers. They said that I could probably start as a freshman.

"I liked the whole environment at Colorado," he said. "It's a beautiful area, plus I really clicked with the players. It was a fun trip."

He says the Buffs are recruiting him the hardest.

"I like Louisville because they have a great offense and like to throw the ball a lot," he said. "They did pretty good this season considering they had a few losses, but I think they'll be a top team for a while. I really want to play for a school that passes the ball and Louisville is just a great place for a wide receiver."

The school that has impressed Tinker the most this season on the field is West Virginia. "They are having a great season and could be going to the national championship," he said. "They've really proved they are a top team and have improved a lot this season. I didn't think they'd be this good."

Although Tinker admits he may not have time to visit Iowa, he says he's heard great things about the Hawkeyes. "I've heard it's a great environment and they also throw the ball a lot," he said. "I'd like to take a trip there to see what it's like if I have time. Perhaps the weekend after my Michigan State trip.

"Michigan State have talked with me about playing both ways (receiver and safety) and possibly starting at safety as a freshman," he said. "I really want to play as early as possible, so that's definite something I'm considering."

He reports a 2.4 core GPA and a 740 SAT - retake unreported.
