Three leaders emerge for Greg Scruggs

While Louisville already has received a verbal commitment from one Cincinnati St. Xavier star (Darius Ashley), the Cardinals are in catch up mode in the race to land athletic defensive end Greg Scruggs. Scruggs has three visits scheduled and a few clear-cut front-runners have emerged.

In the next two weeks, the 6'5, 230 pound Scruggs will officially visit Tennessee, Wake Forest and North Carolina State. While Scruggs made an unofficial visit with Ashley to Louisville earlier this season, the late blooming defensive star doesn't have an official planned with the Cardinals.

"He does not have an official visit scheduled with Louisville," said Steve Specht, Scrugg's high school coach. "He has official visits scheduled with Tennessee, Wake Forest and North Carolina State. He goes to Tennessee this weekend, he goes to Wake Forest the next couple of days after and then he goes to North Carolina State the following weekend."

Where do the Cardinals stand with Scruggs?

"I don't think they're one of the front-runners but they are in the mix," Specht said. "If you want to talk about the front-runners you take a look at the three official visits that he already has scheduled. He hasn't really weeded anyone out yet, but he'll probably do that in the next couple of days."

Still, Specht doesn't anticipate that Scruggs will rush into an early decision this month. "He got into this too late to do that," Specht said.
