Florida State is expected to announce next week that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will replace the 78 year-old Bowden upon retirement. It's that sort of talk that has the 6'5, 210 pound Wells, rated the No. 16 DE prospect nationally, re-thinking his commitment to Florida State.
or Louisville next week.
"I'm committed to them but at the same time I'm just being 100 percent positive that Florida State is where I want to be," Wells said. "I'm not necessarily looking but I've kind of opened up my recruiting to certain schools. So I want to be 100 percent positive that Florida State is where I want to be for the next four or five years."
Playing for the legendary Bowden was perhaps the main reason why Wells verbally committed to the Seminoles over the summer.
"One of the things that got me to commit to Florida State was playing for a legendary coach like Bobby Bowden," Wells said. "It's almost certain that he's going to leave during my time there if not before I get there. I know they had a disappointing season and there is definitely going to be some coaching changes. It's the instability that has caused me to keep my options open."
Uncertainty at Florida State could benefit Louisville. Wells, who will make an official visit to Ohio State this weekend, told InsideTheVille.com Thursday evening that he will visit either Louisville or Auburn next week.
"I'm not exactly sure where I will visit next weekend because it revolves around my mom's schedule too," Wells said. "But it will definitely be Louisville or Auburn next week."
Distance could play a big factor in his decision to visit Louisville or Auburn. The Tigers campus is close to Wells' home and would be much easier for he and his mother to visit.
"Right now it's one or the other," Wells said. "I don't know if I'll be able to get up to Louisville but Auburn is real close to my house and it's real easy for me and my mom to trip over. With Louisville, we'd have to give up an entire weekend to go there. I'd love to (visit) both but I'm sure one of them will probably fall out at somewhere along the line. Monday I'll know for sure where I'm going."
"I still feel that Florida State is where I want to go but I want to be 100 percent positive," Wells said.
