Cyrus Gray, a four-star running back from DeSoto, Texas, came away highly impressed with Louisville after making an official visit this weekend. Gray still has two more visits to take before making his decision but the Cardinals sound like a serious player in his recruitment.

"It went very well. I had fun," Gray said. "I liked the area of Louisville. I liked the coaching staff and the players. They had good facilities. Trent Guy was my host. He showed me everything. He was a real good host. He showed me around the city and how things go around Louisville. Just about everything I liked."

Gray, who travelled to Louisville with high school teammate Tony Jerod, also had an opportunity to spend time talking with Steve Kragthorpe and offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm about how he would fit in with the Cardinals on and off the field. Kragthorpe is looking for talented players with good character and Gray certainly fits that description.

Cyrus Gray was impressed with his
visit to Louisville.

"They were saying that I really fit into their offense and can do different things in their offense and that I have good character," Gray said. "They said I have what they are looking for as far as speed, catching the ball and being able to hit the hole. They said they really want to recruit good players with good character."

Besides Louisville, Gray has taken official visits to Notre Dame and Kansas. Florida and California round out his Top 5. Where do the Cardinals stack up against the rest of his finalists?

"I still don't have a favorite right now," Gray said. "Right now all the schools are about the same. I'm just trying to finish seeing the rest of the schools. But Louisville is a good school. A real good school. (Louisville) would be a good fit for me just from throwing the ball, catching the ball..everything."

Gray has a long list of factors that he'll use to make his decision.

"I want to make sure the school has what I want to major in – health or criminal justice," said Gray. "I want to make sure I get along with the teammates. I want to get a degree and win a national championship. I'm looking at specific offenses that fit me like the spread offense. I'm looking for a good city and a school with good tradition."

Does Louisville have what Gray is looking for?

"They stack up with just about everything that's important to me," Gray said. "They had everything that I'm looking for."

Gray's next official visit will be to Florida Jan. 11. He'll make his final visit to California Jan. 18.

"I'm still going to take all my visits," Gray said. "Probably around January after I take all of my visits I'll write down each school on the board and put down some likes and dislikes, pros and cons and make a decision. I have two more (visits) left."
