Steve Kragthorpe saved a couple scholarships in case one or two recruits became available later in the recruiting process. It looks like that was a wise move as Louisville appears likely to land a late qualifying safety from California' Bay Area.

According to Archbishop Riordan (CA) coach Mike Langridge, 6'1, 180-pound Daniel Cannon will visit Louisville next week. He also told the San Jose Mercury News that there's a good possibility that the two-star prospect will sign with the Cardinals as a free safety.

Daniel Cannon is one of top
players in the Bay Area.

Cannon, rated the No. 105 safety prospect nationally by Scout.com, still needs to qualify academically but is close to doing so.

As a junior, Cannon recorded 72 tackles and a school-record nine interceptions, earning Underclass All-State honors. He was also named to the San Francisco Chronicles second team All Metro team.

Cannon was named first team All-WCAL and the top wide receiver in his conference as a senior. Cannon, who also is a starting guard for Riordan's basketball team, broke the WCAL records for catches (38) and receiving yards (740) in six league games.

Cannon was the Bay Area's leading receiver this year with 53 catches for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cannon was ranked No. 98 on the Contra Costa Times California Top 100.

Considered one of the top prospects in NorCal, Cannon had offers from San Jose St., Washington and Arizona.
