Louisville still Buckles' top choice?

Rakeem Buckles is a potential Top 25 prospect and one of Louisville's top prospects in the Class of 2009. The Cardinals are in strong position – as is hometown Miami - for the athletic, 6-foot-8 Buckles.

Buckles has averaged 14 points and 8 rebounds this season. This Saturday, Buckles had 14 points and 11 rebounds to help his team to an 80-44 win over Belen for the District Championship. Last month, Buckles scored 17 points in an ESPN-televised win over Kenny Boynton and American Heritage.

Buckles still has Cards on top.

"He's doing real well," Lieberman said. "He's improved what he can do from the perimeter. He now can face up, knock down the three, drive and pass it from that position."

Lieberman said, "As of right now (his recruitment) is still status quo," though Louisville continues to recruit Buckles hard.

"They're his top choice," Lieberman said. "We'll find out where he's at in the next few weeks but they're definitely his top choice."

Lieberman said Buckles, who made an unofficial visit to Louisville in December, could make a pre-spring decision. Miami and West Virginia are also in the mix. But for now, Buckles' focus is on winning a second consecutive Florida 4-A state title.

"We're just concentrating on the play-offs right now," Lieberman said.
