Spring Practice: Wednesday Highlights
Sophomore cornerback Johnny Patrick had another solid day. After intercepting two passes on Tuesday, Patrick came up with two more picks during Wednesday's practice and forced a fumble on Maurice Clark.

Zach Kiernan, a 6-6, 281 defensive end, is out for the spring with a knee injury. Kiernan, a redshirt freshman, is expected back by fall camp.

Charles Millenbah, a junior college transfer from California who enrolled at Louisville in January, left the program before the start of spring drills.

It appears clear that 6-4, 285 freshman Mario Benavides is being groomed as Eric Wood's eventual replacement at center. Just four days into spring practice, Benavides worked his way up to second string center during Wednesday's practice.

Speaking of Benavides, DT L.T. Walker welcomed the freshman to college football during one-on-one blocking drills. Matched up with Benavides, Walker drove him back to the marker and flattened him on his back. "Welcome to college football. Now you'll play with pad level," said o-line coach Brent Myers.

Speaking of Walker, he's looking really good physically this spring and batted down a pass at the line of scrimmage during the ‘live' portion of practice.

Defensive tackle Adrian Grady recorded a sack during 11 on 11's.

Converted safety Sergio Spencer made an impressive one-on-one tackle on Victor Anderson in the open field that drew praise from the coaches.

Ron English is trying to get corner Woodny Turenne to reach his potential. Turenne has been solid but you can sense English knows there's more ability there to pull out. After one play where Turenne had blanket coverage but the receiver still made the reception, English barked at Turenne. "How many times are you on a guy and don't make the play," English inquired. "Make the play!"

Scott Long had a deep touchdown reception from Matt Simms on 3rd down and 9 during 11 on 11 ‘live' action.

Trent Guy got past Woodny Turenne for a 60 yard touchdown grab during 11 on 11's.

Chris Campa looks like a real player at linebacker. Campa was around the ball all day and made a big tackle on Bilal Powell in the open field.

Victor Anderson ripped off a nifty 25 yard gain. Anderson flashed some swift cutting ability on Wednesday.
