Rick Pitino has been preparing UofL fans all season for the inevitable – that 6-9 sophomore Derrick Caracter won't be back in a Louisville uniform next season. Wednesday, Caracter declared his intentions.

"I'm definitely not coming back," Caracter told FoxSports.com college basketball writer Jeff Goodman.

Caracter, a key reserve for the Cardinals who has played well during the post-season, has encountered numerous off-court problems since arriving at UofL. Caracter has been suspended multiple times and his days playing for Louisville, who will face Tennessee Thursday night in the East Regional semifinals, are quickly reaching an end.

"The last three years have been difficult," Caracter said. "Not playing my senior year in high school to the weight issues my freshman year. But I've got to stay positive, that things are going to get better."

Whether or not Caracter will be selected in the NBA Draft remains to be seen. What is certain is that he won't play for Pitino next season. Louisville expects to replace Caracter, who averages 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, with 6-8, 260 McDonald's All-American Samardo Samuels.
