"Oh yeah I am very very interested in Louisville. Ever since I was a kid growing up I always wanted to play for Louisville, the Gators (Florida), or Clemson. I think I would fit in down there because they use big possession receivers. I think I am perfect for that system," Scruggs said. Lamar is also in the process of setting up an unofficial visit to Louisville as well.
Scruggs is sporting 23 offers currently, and trying to come up with a list of favorites has not been easy. "I mean its hard I am trying to narrow things down right now, but it is tough I am just trying to take it one day at a time. I have offers from Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, Clemson, Maryland, NC State, FIU, FAU, Louisville, Rutgers, West Virginia, and some others but it's hard to remember them all." Scruggs said laughingly. Michigan, Tennessee, and Mississippi also have made formal offers to Scruggs.
Scruggs had this to say when asked what he is looking for in a school. "I'm looking for a location. Not as far as wanting to stay close to home, but a nice location to live. A place with good education, good coaching, and a family body. A place where I can fit in."
And it is easy to see why so many schools are interested in the 3-Star prospect. Standing a lean, mean 6 feet 3 inches and 185 pounds Scruggs is a physical playmaker. "I feel like my size is what most of the coaches like best about me. I am a big physical receiver that can get between my man, and the ball and make a play. And I can go over the middle and make the tough catch" said Scruggs.
On the field Lamar sports the No. 11 jersey. This is not by accident as he idolizes a former Big East playmaker and current NFL superstar. When asked about whom he patterns his game after Lamar said "Larry Fitzgerald that is my man! He is the reason I wear number 11. People even say I look like Larry."
Scruggs put some numbers up on the board this past year like Mr. Fitzgerald as well. "Yeah I had a good year I feel considering I play for a running school. I had like 45 catches for 600 yards. And I know I had 11 touchdowns." And looking forward to his senior season Scruggs says he has big plans for next year "Yeah last year our team went from 3-8 my sophomore year to this past year we were 9-3. This season we want to be the first team in Fletcher HS history to have an undefeated season."
Scruggs says he has been given a nickname for his exploits on the gridiron. "Down here they call me "Go get ‘em". The coaches all say when the ball is in the air I attack the ball so that is what they call me."
And surely there will be just as many coaches attacking Scrugg's recruitment this summer and upcoming season with the same intensity.
