Louisville in three-star linebacker's Top 5

Brandin Hawthorne, a three-star linebacker from Pahokee (Fl.) HS, describes himself as a smart, physically aggressive defender who shows a lot of leadership on the field. That's exactly the type of player Louisville defensive coordinator Ron English hopes to add more of in the Cardinals 2009 recruiting class.

Louisville definitely has a chance with the 6-1, 195-pound Brandin Hawthorne, who lists the Cardinals in his Top 5. Hawthorne said he plans to make an official visit to Louisville this fall before making his decision.

"I like Coach Bill Miller (Louisville's linebacker coach). I have a very good relationship with him," said Hawthorne. "I also like Louisville's defense."

Louisville, though, currently has ground to make up on two programs in the race to land Scout.com's #32 weak-side linebacker. "Michigan and West Virginia stand out right now," Hawthorne said. "Michigan is one of the biggest schools in the nation and they play in front of lots of people. I also like that I've got some former teammates up there."

Hawthorne said he plans to take official visits to Michigan, Louisville, Tennessee, West Virginia and Ohio State this fall. No dates have been scheduled yet.

"I'm going to pray about it and let God help me with my decision," Hawthorne said. I just want to find a system where I can attack the quarterback and fly around and make plays on the running backs and wide receivers."
