Kick-off nears; Scrimmage Update

Today is going to be a busy day for the Louisville football team. The Cardinals began their day at the annual Kick-Off Luncheon downtown with 1,200 supporters. They'll end the day with a 65-70 play scrimmage - the first of fall camp - Thursday night at PJCS. Steve Kragthorpe updates his team's progress.

Steve Kragthorpe discusses his team's progress a third of the way through fall camp, Louisville's first scrimmage of camp Thursday night and the upcoming season-opener against Kentucky.

Louisville scrimmaged for the first time during fall practice Thursday night at PJCS. The Cardinals wanted to create a game-day atmosphere during the scrimmage 80+ play workout. Louisville's coaches worked from both the box and field, communicating via headphones as they will do this season during games. The Cards also brought in a Big East officiating crew to work the scrimmage.

The highlights from the closed scrimmaged were Hunter Cantwell connecting with junior wide out Scott Long for three touchdowns.

"Overall good effort but a lot of things we've got to get fixed," Steve Kragthorpe said. "There's a lot of little mistakes when you throw them out here and all those guys have to be playing with complete, complete precision, being synchronized every snap of the ball. For the most part, the effort was excellent we just got a lot of execution things we need to clean up.

"That's what I talked to the team about..we're going to make some mistakes particularly this point in time during training camp. What you can't do is repeat those (mistakes). You've got to get them fixed. And we talked to the players about communication. They've got to be able to fix some of those things on the field themselves before we can get the off on the sidelines and the way they do that is talk with each other out there."
