Three-star McHaney "impressed" by Louisville

Louisville is looking for playmakers on both sides of the football in the Class of 2009. Three-star athlete Thad McHaney is the type of prospect that could help out on either side of the ball. McHaney officially visited Louisville last weekend and came away impressed with the Cardinals.

There are several positions on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball that are severely lacking in depth currently for the University of Louisville. Two of the thinnest spots are at defensive end and tight end. Tennessee standout Thad McHaney could make an impact at either spot.

Thad was hosted by current Cardinal freshman Greg Scruggs while on campus this past weekend. McHaney had a great opportunity to get a good look at the Louisville program.

"I learned about how everybody lives and how they run things. So I was pretty impressed. They want to win, but they want to win the right way," said McHaney. "I got to talk to the administration about my major. So it was a good trip."

And while things might not have gone the way most of the folks in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium would have liked them to McHaney saw that the fan base stood behind their program.

"I liked the game atmosphere. The fans showed their support for the team even though things got out of hand so that was good," said McHaney. And with so many recruits visiting for the opening season it is huge that the Cardinal faithful were able to put their best foot forward showing support for the program.

McHaney was also blown away by all the amenities and facilities that Louisville offers their student athletes.

"It was really nice everything was. The dorms and the weight room were all really nice," said McHaney. "I was very impressed with them. They (Louisville) are really going to weigh heavily when I make my decision."

Thad also got time to sit down and speak with several members of the Louisville coaching staff as well as players about any concerns that may have been weighing on his mind.

"Yeah I got all my questions answered about school and the class schedules. And how they run things up there so that was cool," McHaney mentioned.

And while some schools can be very adamant about trying to secure a player's commitment while on campus the Louisville staff has a different approach.

"No they were very supportive of me and didn't put any pressure on me at all. They were just being themselves and I liked that. They didn't put any pressure on me (for a decision) so it was a great trip," said McHaney. "I am just going to take a look at some things to see what my next move will be. I am going to take some more trips during the season, but I just don't know when or where yet."

Several top flight schools are battling it out for Thad's services including written offers from several BCS powerhouses. With an offer sheet including Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Louisville, Marshall, Oregon, and UCLA several good choices abound. McHaney recently mentioned that Louisville, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Ole Miss and Kentucky are recruiting him the hardest.

Now with his visit to Louisville out of the way there are several schools vying for his next visit.

"I don't really have a time-frame to make a decision. I know I want to make a decision fairly quickly but I want to take my time and be patient," said McHaney.
