In reality, it could go either way, says Daniels.
Louisville is still actively recruiting Aaron Dotson, a Top 100 swing man, from Seattle (WA) Rainer Beach. Pitino is scheduled to fly to the pacific northwest next week for an in-home visit with the athletic 6-foot-4 Dotson. Dotson has an official visit with the Cardinals set for Oct. 18. He is also considering LSU and Wake Forest.
One player who no longer figures to be in the mix with the Cardinals because of Van Treese's commitment is Andrew Fitzgerald, a talented 6-foot-8, 245-pound post-prospect from Maryland.
"Van Treese's commitment was definitely a little surprising because Louisville appeared to back off of him this summer and had been targeting Andrew Fitzgerald and that door is likely closed now," Daniels said. "But they went and watched Van Treese this week, liked what they saw and offered him."
With the addition of the 6-foot-8 Van Treese, a standout for Indianapolis (IN) North Lawrence, Louisville now has four verbal commitments from Class of 2009 members – Peyton Siva, a 6-0 point guard from Seattle (WA) Rainer Beach; Rakeem Buckles, a 6-8 power forward from Miami (FL) Pace; and Mike Marra, a 6-5 guard from Northfield (MA) Mount Hermon School.
"It's not quite a Top 10 class because they didn't get one an elite prospect in the class but they've got a bunch of solid players," said Daniels. "It's a class that meets their needs, especially at point guard with Peyton Siva and power forward with Rakeem Buckles."
