Chandler was in Louisville today, along with Van Treese and 6'7 forward Justin Martin, one of the nation's Top 40 juniors. "We're going down (Wednesday)," said Michael Chandler. "This will be my first trip to Louisville and I'm looking forward to it."
So what does Chandler think about the Louisville offer?
"I thought it was a great offer. Coach Pitino is a good coach," Chandler said. "They offered sometime in September. I had called Rick Pitino after he came to one of our open gyms and he offered me a scholarship to Louisville. He told me I played good."
Chandler said the offer from Pitino caught him by surprise. "I was surprised because the day he saw me I had an off day in the gym," Chandler said.
Though Van Treese hasn't really pushed the subject of Louisville with Chandler, it can't hurt the Cardinals having the 6'8 forward on the same team. "Stephen and I really haven't talked about Louisville but when he made his decision to go there he said it's a great school because Coach Pitino is a great coach," Chandler said.
Besides Louisville, Chandler also has offers from Ohio State and Cincinnati. "I've got a couple favorites," said Chandler. "I like Florida, Ohio State, Louisville, Purdue, UCLA, Memphis and Kentucky."
Chandler attended team camps at Purdue and Ohio State last summer.
Last weekend, Chandler earned MVP honors at Pangos All-Midwest camp in Chicago. Chandler is ranked Scout.com No. 4 center in the class of 2011. "I did pretty decent at Pangos," Chandler said. "I've got some things I've got to work on like getting back on defense and my attitude. If my teammates aren't doing well I've got to encourage them. So I've been working on my post moves and defense."
