Thomas excited about Louisville visit

Shamarko Thomas is looking forward to his first official visit to Louisville this weekend. The standout Virginia Beach (VA) Ocean Lakes defensive back has Louisville at the top of his list. Could Thomas' visit result in a commitment?

"I'm going to Louisville this weekend," Shamarko Thomas said. "I'm looking at Louisville, Marshall, Richmond and Kent State. Louisville and Marshall are the top two schools."

Thomas is having a great senior season. His team is undefeated at 8-0 and he's making a difference on both sides of the football at wide receiver and defensive back. On offense, Thomas says he has a "couple TD's;" on defense Thomas has 81 tackles and four interceptions.

Louisville views him as a defensive back in college.

"Louisville calls me every week," said Thomas. "I talk to Coach (Eric) Lewis. We've got a great relationship. We talk and he tells me what I'm going to do there. They say I can probably start as a freshman at corner or safety."

What is Thomas looking forward to most about his visit to Louisville? "I'm trying to learn more about their educational opportunity and how their defense plays," he said. "I haven't watched them play this season and this will be my first time to see how they play."

Thomas said he plans to make his decision after the football season. Thomas has offers from Louisville, Marshall, Richmond and Kent State. Virginia is keeping an eye on his academic situation. He has no scheduled visit to Marshall at this point.
