Reports: English headed to Eastern Michigan

According to reports, Louisville defensive coordinator Ron English will be named the head coach at Eastern Michigan on Monday. English would become just the fifth black head coach in major college football.

English, 40, will be named Eastern Michigan head coach at an introductory news conference on Monday, according to the Associated Press.

English, who replaced Mike Cassity as defensive coordinator at Louisville, spent just one season with the Cardinals. English served as an assistant at Michigan under Lloyd Carr for five seasons, including his final two seasons in Ann Arbor as defensive coordinator.

Carr was an advisor to Eastern Michigan during their coaching search.

English will become only the fifth black head coach in the FBS, joining Buffalo's Turner Gill, Miami's Randy Shannon, Houston's Kevin Sumlin, and New Mexico's Mike Locksley.
