Cards trying to get ‘in' with Nunez

Bernardo Nunez, a three-star DE from Hoboken, NJ, is currently focused on three schools – Michigan State, Maryland and Pittsburgh. Louisville recently got involved with the 6-3, 235-pounder and the Cardinals are trying to pry their way into the mix.

Bernardo Nunez,'s No. 43 ranked defensive end prospect, has already visited Maryland. He's scheduled to visit Pittsburgh Jan. 9 and Michigan State Jan. 17. After those two visits, Nunez, who runs the 40 in 4.8, thinks he'll be ready to make a decision. Louisville is hoping they can convince him to visit their campus instead.

"I'm planning to visit just those two and then make my decision," Nunez said. "If I do take another visit it would be the last week of January to Louisville."

Louisville defensive line coach Ken Delgado recently traveled to New Jersey to meet with Nunez and express Louisville's interest.

"They haven't offered me (a scholarship) that I know of but they've talked to me about coming down for an official visit," Nunez said. "Right now I don't know nothing about Louisville other than the fact that they're in a tough conference. They first contacted me about two weeks ago and Coach Delgado actually came down and was talking about how much I can learn at (Louisville)."

Nunez had 130 tackles, 19 sacks and forced two fumbles as a junior. He had more than 60 tackles and 12 sacks this season as a senior.
