Louisville recruits lead team to big win

Two Louisville recruits – 2009 signee Stephan Van Treese and 2010 commit Justin Martin – were in action at the T-Mobile Invitational at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana Monday afternoon.

Indianapolis (IN) Lawrence North, led by the 6-foot-9 Van Treese, 6-foot-7 Martin and 6-foot-9 Kentucky commit Dominque Ferguson, opened the contest with an 11-0 run and never looked back, defeating Seattle Garfield 61-37. Lawrence North led Garfield 32-21 at the half.

Van Treese, who impressed with his interior passing skills, finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and one assist but struggled to finish around the basket – making only 4-of-11 shots. Van Treese did have a monster slam off the bounce to begin the second quarter and had a nice hustle steal after missing another dunk in traffic on the break.

Martin, a talented junior guard/forward, added 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and one block. Martin finished 4 of 10 from the floor, including 0 for 3 from three. Martin made 3-4 free throws and scored most of his points on slashing moves.

Ferguson, a talented junior forward, led Lawrence North with 18 points. Ferguson also added six rebounds.

2011 Louisville recruit Michael Chandler played briefly off the bench for Lawrence North. The 6-foot-10 sophomore had two points and one rebound.

2011 Louisville prospect Tony Wroten didn't play for Garfield. Wroten is battling eligibility (residency) issues. Wroten is expected to return to action next month when school resumes.

Louisville assistants Richard Pitino and Walter McCarty were in attendance to watch Van Treese and Martin.
