Philon prepares for visits; Sets decision day

Lexington (KY) Bryan Station defensive lineman Roy Philon will make two official visits this week, including one to Louisville this weekend, before making his decision late next week.

Roy Philon is starting the most important week in his recruitment.

"I have two official visits coming up this week. I will be visiting Miami of Ohio Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Then I will be visiting Louisville Friday, Saturday, and Sunday," said Philon.

Making his first trip to Miami (OH), Roy says that he likes what he is hearing from the new RedHawk coaching staff.

"With Miami of Ohio I just really like the vibe I get from the coaching staff. I like the scholarship situation there and the position I would be playing with them," said Philon.

Louisville has been recruiting Philon for more than a year now and he had good things to say about the Cardinal program.

"I have been to Louisville before for an unofficial visit last year for a game. And I also came down here with my team for a camp during the summer," said Philon. "I really liked it and it is definitely a place I could see myself at. I liked the field, campus, weight rooms, and the facilities. And I really liked the coaching staff and I think it could really work out there. It is a place I could really call home."

At this point the Louisville coaching staff has not extended an official offer to Philon, but he says that could be coming very soon.

"The coaches are telling me that they really want to offer me a scholarship, but are waiting for me to get on campus. They want to show me what the school is all about and what they have to offer me," said Philon.

Philon still has several teams in pursuit of his services. His current list includes Central Michigan, Miami (OH), Louisville, Eastern Michigan, and Oklahoma, who Philon says is trying to come in for an in-home visit this week.

"When I go on my visits I want to see the college campus, the coach I will be playing for, when I will have the chance to play, and just little things like that," said Philon. "At this point I wouldn't say I have a leader and I am still open. By next Friday I would have taken my fourth official visit and I will be ready to make my decision. So my decision will be coming by next Friday."

Philon recorded 60 tackles and 15 sacks as a senior.

"Right now the thing coaches like about me is my speed off the ball and my quickness. They also really like my size and athletic ability," said Philon. "The one thing I do want to do this summer is to gain some weight and hit the weight room real hard."
