Pitino offers top sophomores

The word is leaking out from Weston, Fla. Sagemont sophomores Richard Peters and Rod Days are making waves and collecting offers as Class of 2011 prospects.

There's a difference between recruiting a sophomore and camping out at his doorstep. It seems like big time coaches are pitching tents around Weston (Fla.) Sagemont's campus, hoping to get an early start on a pair of 2011 prospects.

"Pitino's coming to the game on Tuesday night," Sagemont coach Adam Ross told Scout.com. "He's been to four or five games already this year. He's loving South Florida. They signed Rakeem Buckles who isn't far from us."

Louisville, obviously, has offered 6-foot-10 sophomore power forward Richard Peters. The native of Toronto also boasts an offer from the Connecticut Huskies who seem to know a good shot blocker when they see one.

Peters, in his second year, averages 10.5 points, 7.5 boards and 2.8 rejections a night. "This is his third or fourth year playing," Ross said. "I want to say he started in seventh grade. He's incredibly skilled for a kid his age and his size. He can shoot it but he's still got some work to do as an athlete. He's still 15 years old. He's like a newborn calf trying to get his feet underneath him. He gets up and down the floor and will get up above the rim."

In addition to the aforementioned offers, Peters has Oklahoma and Florida State dangling scholarships.

"He's legit 6-10 and he's a left-handed skilled four man," Ross said. "He's got a lot of work to do and he's got a lot of guys recruiting him hard."

Peters isn't alone at Sagemont. Rod Days, a 6-foot-6 small forward has offers from Louisville, South Carolina, Delaware, Miami and Florida State. Auburn and UConn are taking a peek. He's accounting for 15 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.

"He's a 6-6 wing and real long and bouncy," Ross said. "He's going to be very good. He's put on a lot of weight. He was 165 pounds (he's 185 now) not that long ago."
