Cards look to make noise in Big East Tourney

By virtue of their 62-59 win over West Virginia Saturday night in Morgantown, top-seed Louisville, the Big East regular-season champions, will open Big East Tournament play this week in New York Thursday at noon. The Cardinals will face the winner of the Providence-Cincinnati/DePaul game which will be played Wednesday at noon in Madison Square Garden.

Looking further, if Louisville wins their quarterfinal opener on Thursday, the Cardinals would play the winner of the Villanova-Marquette/Georgetown/St.John's matchup Friday night at 7 p.m. in the semifinals. The Big East finals will be played Saturday at 9 on ESPN.

Pittsburgh enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed; UConn No. 3; and Villanova No. 4. The top-four seeds receive double-bye's in the tournament. If Pittsburgh and Connecticut win their quarterfinal matchups the two would play each other in the semi's Friday night at 9 p.m.

Louisville is looking for its first Big East Tournament title. The Cardinals were knocked out in the semifinals two years ago by Pittsburgh and lost in the quarterfinals to the Panthers last season. Pittsburgh also sent Louisville packing from the Cardinals first Big East tournament in 2006.
