Lining up at safety this weekend, 6'1, 200-lb Manuel has bounced around between a couple spots, but seems to be getting closer to nailing down a true home.
"Last year, I started off at corner," he explained, "then played safety then I went back and forth between corner and safety depending on what coverage we were in. This year, I'll mainly be a safety, but I might be in the slot too."
He has spoken with many schools about the recruiting process and which position he will play has been a part of those conversations.
"Some schools like Minnesota, they like to take their defensive backs and start them off at corner, then let them grow into safety. The underclassmen, freshmen, they like to start them off at corner. So far all the schools that offered, they only one that offered for safety is Louisville, everyone else said corner."
That offer list for Manuel has been growing lately, as he added two from the Big Ten in recent weeks.
"Actually, I just got an offer Friday by Michigan State, they called and I talked to them and I'll be there soon for a spring practice. Two weeks ago, I picked up another offer from Minnesota."
The offers from the Spartans and Golden Gophers bring Manuel's total to four, as he previously held offers from Louisville and Cincinnati. He also says he expects a couple more to be added soon.
"I have other schools talking to me. Kentucky, Virginia Tech, I got some pretty good ties there, I know the defensive backs coach down there. Those two for sure, I know can be any day now for an offer. There's Purdue and a couple other schools too."
Manuel will continue his spring visits this weekend when he visits Kentucky on Friday and Louisville on Saturday.
