Haggins close to making decision

Jared Haggins has talked about making his commitment at the end of spring for some time now. Haggins' spring game is slated for this Friday, so NoleDigest.com caught up with him to see if his plan to make an early decision is still in the cards.

Jared Haggins has been a standout at Lakeland (FL) High for three years now. The 5A All-State utility player's recruitment has been going well as programs from all over the nation have been offering him.

Early on Haggins made it known that he intended on making his decision on where he wanted to go to college after spring training was over. According to Jared, those plans are still in the works as he has four colleges he's narrowed his list down to.

"Recruiting is going good for me as Michigan State is the latest school to offer," Haggins said, "but I pretty much have it down to four schools so far. If I don't make my decision before spring is over it will be no more than a week before it is made. I've talked to my mom about it and she just wants me to make a good decision for myself."

The four schools on Haggins' short list are Florida State, USF, Ohio State and Louisville. He told NoleDigest.com what he liked about each and says they've all showed a lot of interest in him over the spring.

"The four schools are FSU, USF, Ohio State and Louisville maybe," explained Haggins. "All four have offered me.

"FSU wants me as an athlete and Coach Fisher has said if I continue to improve there is a chance I could get a shot at quarterback. I like Coach Fisher a lot and I would really consider FSU even if my uncle wasn't there. Plus it is close to home.

"Ohio State wants me as a free safety and USF and Louisville want me as a quarterback. Having all of the coaches coming to see me this spring has shown that they really want me in their program. It's all good stuff."

Haggins' spring game is Friday against Tarpon Springs. He said the goal this spring is to improve every day as they aim for a state title.

"The spring has been going pretty good and I think we are ready for Tarpon Springs Friday," said Haggins. "We have a lot of new faces up front so we've been working on getting better there because our goal is to win a state championship this year."
