FL speedster picks up Louisville offer

Joseph Byrd, a speedster from Cape Coral (FL) Ida Baker, has been racking up offers this spring, including one last week from Louisville.

Joseph Byrd, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound running back with 10.4 100-meter speed, has picked up a bunch of offers this spring. The first wave of offers for Byrd came from Indiana, Minnesota and Florida International. Last week, four more schools – Iowa State, Louisville, Marshall and Middle Tennessee – added their names to the list.

"I was excited about Louisville's offer," Byrd said. "I've talked to them once but I didn't talk to them before I got the offer so it was a bit surprising. I talked to the head coach and he said he was excited to be recruiting me."

Byrd also mentioned his interest in the Hoosiers. "I like the coaches. They are nice," he said. "I like the school. I'm interested in them a lot."

Byrd rushed for 1,500 yards as a junior, but his future could be at wide receiver or corner because of his size and speed. Byrd runs a 4.4 forty and is also a track star who has been timed at 10.4 in the 100 meters.

Byrd will participate in a national track event in North Carolina June 20 and he plans to visit Wake Forest, Duke, NC State and North Carolina while in the state. Byrd said those schools haven't offered but are showing interest. As for a college decision, Byrd doesn't plan to decide until after his senior year.

"I'm going to wait until after football season to make a decision," Byrd said.
