Cards eyeing D.C. wide receiver

Alonzo Russell has the size and speed that colleges look for in the passing game. At 6-4 182-pounds, Russell is a physical receiver who has caught the eye of several high-level programs, including Louisville.

Alonzo Russell is prospect to watch closely this season. Two Big East programs recently offered scholarship and more could follow suit in the future.

"The teams that are really looking at me right now are Virginia Tech, Illinois, Pittsburgh, Baylor, Louisville, Syracuse and Penn State," said Alonzo Russell a playmaking wide receiver for Woodson High School in Washington D.C.

Russell recently received scholarship offers from Pittsburgh and West Virginia.

"The coaches like my size, my speed, and the way I drop my hips on my routes," said Russell. "They also say I have amazing hands."

Russell attended camp at West Virginia and Pittsburgh and plans to make some additional trips this summer, including one to Louisville.

"I plan on taking trips to Maryland, Virginia Tech, Illinois, and Louisville also this summer," said Russell.

Russell wants to learn more about Louisville and hopes to do so with an unofficial visit in the next few weeks.

"Louisville sends me a lot of mail but I have yet to speak personally with the coaches. I know they have a good profile," said Russell.

Russell says his ability to get out there and show what he's got to coaches will help him land even more scholarship offers over the summer.

"I am really working on my routes this summer as well as getting into better shape," said Russell. "The first thing I am looking at is academics and other that the style of play of the school is what I will be looking for."
