"Pretty much basically because of Coach (Matt) Wells – my recruiting coach," Simek said. "He's been with me from the start and he's a good guy. I try to talk with Louisville every couple weeks but it's been a while since I talked to him last because I've been so busy this summer."
While Simek plays on both sides of the football in high school, Louisville is recruiting him as an offensive tackle.
"Louisville has a great program and they've treated me really well," Simek said. "It would be a good place to go because I know I would be taken care of. Their style of offense would be great. I think they're going to be contenders pretty soon because they've got a great coaching staff and they're getting better players every year. They're going to win a lot of ball games in the future."
This summer Simek has visited many of the schools on his final list, including Nebraska, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Arizona. While he hasn't visited Louisville, Simek said he'd like to check out the Cardinals before he makes his decision.
"I like Nebraska, Texas Tech, OSU, Arizona and (Louisville)," Simek said. "(They're) all great schools and they all have good coaching staffs. It's just where I'll be most comfortable is what I'm looking for. I've always grown up around the Big 12 and it would be cool to play in that league but it's not like I have to play in that league. That's not a huge factor."
Simek could make a decision soon. He'd prefer to get the recruiting process out of the way before the season starts but says he'll extend the process and take some official visits this fall if needed.
"I'd like to make a decision before the season," Simek said. "If I'm still not comfortable with where I've been then I'll start taking visits to places."
