Chandler, Melo dual at Adidas Take Five

Michael Chandler and Fab Melo squared-off in the playoffs to highlight the action Tuesday at the Adidas Take Five Classic.

There was no lacking in star power on the court as well as on the sidelines for the 2nd round tournament matchup between the Florida Rams and Derrick Rose All-Stars. With names like Rick Pitino, Roy Williams, John Calipari, and many others watching all the action intently the play on the court had to have made all in attendance very happy.

After dispatching the Kentucky Gators in the opening round of tournament play the Florida Rams found the sledding much tougher in the second go around. Louisville commit Josh Langford did all he could on Tuesday afternoon to carry his Rams teammates to the winners circle on Tuesday after noon. On the day the super athletic forward skied over, around, and through the competition for 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block. After remaining relatively quiet for the first 32 minutes of action totaling just 4 points the Alabama jumping jack exploded for 12 points over the final 8 minutes of action.

Also chiming in for the Rams was the hot shooting 2011 SG Damien Leonard who rang the bell for 20 points including 6 big three point bombs for the game. 5-star big man Fab Melo also added 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 big blocks and an assist during the proceedings. Unfortunately after getting roughed up during a scuffle for an offensive rebound Melo was less effective the remainder of the game.

Despite their best efforts the Rams could not hold back the D1E Derrick Rose All-Stars. Led by a standout performance from 2011 combo guard Tracy Abrams, who totaled 24 points including 4 triples, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Also playing like a man possessed was former Louisville commit Justin Martin with 14 points, 10 big rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Martin known more for his prowess on the perimeter was surprisingly strong on the interior snagging several big rebounds in the process.

Also making a big contribution off the bench was 2011 Louisville commit Michael Chandler, who used his energy and length to spark an early first half run which helped lead the All-Stars to their first lead of the game. Chandler finished the game with 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 big block at the end of the game.

The victory for D1E All-Stars would be short lived as they would be knocked out in the quarterfinals of the tournament by California based Pump and Run Basketball Club. Again Abrams would come up big 29 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists and Chandler nearly had a double-double with 8 points, 9 rebounds, a steal, and a block in a losing effort.
