Cards pursuing three-star Florida DB?

Rated among the nation's top cornerback prospects by, Mariner (Fla.) High School's Eric Mitchell has become a popular recruiting target this summer. Mitchell, who holds an offer from Louisville, claims two current leaders. Are the Cardinals a contender for his services?

Eric Mitchell, a 5'11, 170-pound athlete with sub 4.5-40 yard speed, became a recruiting target of the Louisville staff early in the process. Since picking up an offer from the Cardinals early in the spring, the Mariner (Fla) High School has become a popular prospect.

"It's going really well," said Mitchell, who ranks among the top 50 cornerback prospects in the country by "I now have eleven or twelve offers. Michigan is the most recent one that I received."

In addition to the Cardinals and Wolverines, Mitchell also reported scholarship offers from Central Florida, Indiana, Marshall, Mississippi, Ohio, South Florida, Toledo and Vanderbilt.

Primarily playing in the offensive backfield throughout his career, he has projected as a cornerback or safety on the college level.

"Coaches are telling me that they like how move and my speed," said Mitchell, who has rushed for more than 2,000 yards the past two seasons. "I like to hit, so I'm looking forward making some plays on defense this year."

While the three-star prospect states that he's in no rush to make a college choice, he does claim two current leaders.

"I'm not worrying about it right now, but I do have a couple favorites," he said. "Right now I like Ole Miss and Michigan. I like the coaching staff and players that I met at Ole Miss and I like the tradition that Michigan has."

"I talk to those two schools the most right now," he continued. "I haven't talked to Louisville about their offer yet, so I still need to learn more about them and some others."
