Melo, the No. 5 prospect in the 2010 class, has established himself as one of the nation's most promising prospects. A 7-0, 265-pound native of Brazil, Melo is skilled, athletic and loaded with upside. He's narrowed his list to four schools – Louisville, Syracuse, Florida and Miami – and could announce a decision before returning to his native country to visit family this month.
"Melo could be deciding soon," Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels said. "The word is Louisville is in the lead. Syracuse would be next in line. Pitino and Jim Boeheim were at majority of Melo's games in Vegas and Orlando."
Louisville also appears the favorite to land a commitment from Teague – a decision that could come at any moment. Teague, one of the Top 10 prospects in the 2011 recruiting class, would give the Cardinals one of the nation's truly elite point guards. Teague was rated one of the Top 10 performers in July regardless of class by Scout.com.
"He's Louisville's to lose and majority of the other college programs recruiting him believe that," Daniels said. "He could make a decision very soon."
Pitino also has positioned Louisville as a strong contender for five-star 2011 shooting guard Wayne Blackshear. Blackshear, who made an unofficial visit to Louisville earlier this summer, also is considering Illinois and Texas, among others.
"Pitino has made him a prime target and I think they've made (up) some strong ground on his recruitment. He's a prime target right now," Daniels said.
