Louisville fans are well aware of Wayne Blackshear and Mike Shaw, AAU teammates for the Mac Irvin Fire who are both prime 2011 recruiting targets for the Cardinals. So who is 6'2 Macari Brooks? Well, he's a 6'2 jumping-jack who played with Blackshear and Shaw and will also visit Louisville this weekend.
Marcari Brooks, a 2011 prospect from Richton Park (IL) Rich South, got overshadowed by higher-rated AAU teammates Wayne Blackshear
and Mike Shaw
this summer. But the athletic 6'2 combo-guard is a pretty good player in his own right and he'll visit Louisville
with Blackshear and Shaw this weekend.
"This was Macari Brooks' first summer being with Mac Irvin," said AAU coach Mike Irvin. "When it's all said and done this kid is going to be a Top 30 player. He's been flying under the radar because he plays with Mike (Shaw) and Wayne (Blackshear) but he's probably one of the best athletes in the country."
Strong words, but apparently Brooks' performance this summer was enough to pique Rick Pitino's interest and earn him a place on Louisville's radar in the 2011 class.
"Louisville is interested," Irvin said. "They saw him play this summer. They haven't offered yet but they are interested and they are going to watch him. With his athleticism, the way he puts it in the basket and gets up and down they are definitely (interested). They seen him play in July and they want to keep looking at him during the season."
Louisville isn't the only program keeping a close watch on Brooks, who holds offers from DePaul and Northern Illinois. He's also receiving strong interest from several BCS-league programs.
"I know Florida State, Arizona State and Illinois are all recruiting him – a lot of schools are recruiting him," Irvin said.
