Froman returns to practice

Adam Froman is practicing again for Louisville. The junior college transfer battled Justin Burke for the starting quarterback job until an injury sidelined him during fall camp. This week, Steve Kragthorpe plans to give Froman a long look during practice.

Adam Froman returned to practice last week. Froman, a junior college transfer who was a prime candidate for the starting quarterback job until an injury sidelined him during training camp, will get a look during practice this week leading up to Saturday's big game against Kentucky.

"He's back full go this week," Kragthorpe said. "We'll evaluate him during the week of practice and I anticipate him being able to play."

Will Stein, a walk-on from Trinity, was the No. 2 quarterback vs. Indiana State. Stein saw mop-up duty late in that game over redshirt freshman Zach Stoudt. Will Froman jump ahead of both Stein and Stoudt on the depth chart for the Kentucky game?

"We'll probably make a determination going into Thursday's practice and divide the reps accordingly on Thursday," Kragthorpe said. "He'll get a good bulk of reps today and we're going to decide in the next few days how much he can handle and where he's at and the volume of work he can have."

While out with a shoulder injury, Kragthorpe said Froman stayed focused and mentally alert in practice.

"The good thing about Adam is he's very bright," Kragthorpe said. "He's done a great job of staying focused in practice. He's played each play mentally (during practice) and stands over there next to me and talks through each play. He's done a good job preparing mentally now he's got to get out there and get physical reps this week."

Any chance Froman starts against Kentucky?

"No, Justin will be the starter," Kragthorpe said.
