Blackshear waiting it out?

Wayne Blackshear put Louisville atop his list after visiting the Cardinals earlier this month and hinted a decision might not be far off. Now, though, it seems the 2011 five-star guard wants to consider his options a little longer before ending his recruitment.

Wayne Blackshear named Louisville his leader after visiting Rick Pitino's program in early Septemer and hinted that a decision could be forthcoming. But now that the dust has settled from his visit to Louisville, it doesn't appear that Blackshear will rush a decision.

"I don't think he'll make a decision soon," said Mike Irvin, Blackshear's AAU coach. "Louisville is definitely recruiting him hard. So are Illinois, USC and Michigan State recruiting him hard. Louisville is definitely at the top of the list but he's got a few other schools at the top of his list also."

Irvin said he's not expecting Blackshear to make a decision soon.

"I might be a little surprised if that happened, especially with Kansas coming in recently and Kentucky coming in today and they're coach coming back next week there's still a lot out here that's he's still weighing his options," Irvin added. "He definitely likes Louisville and Coach Pitino's style. But I don't (think) a commitment is coming soon."

Kansas appears to be making a move.

"Kansas is coming in hard," Irvin said. "They've been recruiting him hard. Bill Self has been in here a few times. So Kansas is definitely involved."

During September, Pitino and Illinois head coach Bruce Weber stopped by Morgan Park High School to see Blackshear. Kentucky sent an assistant this week and John Calipari is supposed to visit next week. Bill Self is also expected to come in for a visit next week."

Louisville is hoping to put together a top-ranked 2011 recruiting class. The Cardinals already have three Top 100 commitments, including Top 40 big men Michael Chandler and Zach Price. Louisville also hopes to close on Top 5 point guard Marquis Teague, who has a strong friendship with Blackshear and Shaw.

"He's made good friendships with those guys, particularly Marquis Teague, but everybody has to go where the situation is good for them," Irvin said. "It's good to have a good recruiting class coming in, that's a plus but they've got to find a situation that best fits them."

Shaw still has a long list.
Irvin said Teague, Blackshear and Shaw have known each other for a while growing up together on the summer basketball circuit.

"He's definitely interested in playing with Marquis Teague," said Irvin. "They all like each other and talk to each other. We see Marquis Teague so much on the circuit that they have a good relationship with him."

As for Shaw, Irvin said he's still got a long list of schools that he's interested in.

"He's got (Louisville), Florida, Kentucky – Kentucky is hard on him – Arizona, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State," Irvin said. "He's got a long list. He's probably had 15 schools come to see him since school started. Who he's got standing out for him – Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, he likes Florida and Arizona. Both him and Wayne still have Southern Illinois in the mix. With them pretty much they're still open. There's been a lot of schools in and out of here."

Irvin said the pair want to visit Michigan State and Florida in the near future.

"They were supposed to go to Michigan State," Irvin said. "They're scheduled to go to Illinois. I know Mike is scheduled to go to Florida. The next trip is definitely going to be Michigan State for those two but there's no date on it."
