Lady Cards Get Big C-USA win
The University of Louisville Lady Cards basketball team was behind the eight-ball in Conference USAS play, but they sunk their shots in the second half and pulled out a huge victory over Tulane 77-70 in Freedom Hall on Friday night.
The Lady Cards trailed 38-28 late in the first half, but went on an 8-0 run keyed by six straight points from Lori Nero to close the half with and trailed 38-36 at the break.
The two teams swapped the lead five times in the first 11 minutes of the second half before junior guard Sara Nord took over the contest. Nord scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the second half for Louisville.
With the Green Wave leading 58-57, Nero scored to give the Lady Cards (13-6, 3-2) the lead for good at 59-58 with 8:26 remaining. Louisville outscored Tulane 18-12 and hit six of eight from the foul line to grab the win.
"They were one of the teams picked to win the conference and I think it is a huge win," said Nord. "They are a good team, but I think we finally got it together in the second half."
In addition to her 23 points, Nord also handed out nine assists, while Nero came off the bench to pitch in 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Next up for the Lady Cards will be a home game with Southern Miss. Tip Off is at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Freedom Hall.
