7'0 James Davis likes Cards

James Davis is a 7'0, 285 senior center from Minneapolis North High School.  And despite playing only one year of organized basketball, Davis is leading the state of Minnesota with 16 rebounds per game.

Davis also averages 17 points per contest for Coach Brett McNeil's #1 ranked team despite sharing the court with 3 other Division 1 signees.

North is ranked #1 in Class 4A in the state of Minnesota and is 18-1 this season.  Earlier this season, North defeated Minneapolis Hopkins and Duke signee Kris Humphries and  Davis overpowered Hopkins in the paint.

The University of Louisville has shown considerable interest in Davis and Assistant Coach Vince Taylor has visited Davis twice recently attending both a North High game and a practice according to Coach McNeil.

And on February 17, University of Louisville Coach Rick Pitino will make the trip north with Vince Taylor to watch Davis play against three time defending 3A state champion Minneapolis Henry High School.

"Davis has great hands.. great feet and is a quick study," Coach McNeil said of Davis.

When questioned if Davis could play in an uptempo style such as Louisville's, McNeil explained, "That's exactly how we play up here..we press and get up and down floor."

Does Davis play well in that style, "Oh yes," said McNeil.

There is one potential problem.  Academics.

McNeil said that Davis may be a core course or two short of qualifying for freshman eligibility.

McNeil indicated that he felt UofL talked like they would take Davis as a partial qualifier but would know more after Coach Pitino's visit on the 17th.

McNeil listed UofL, Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota and Western Kentucky as the main school on Davis' list.  Western Kentucky has shown considerable interest and has been to see Davis recently.  Minnesota has also shown recent interest.

However, Louisville appears to be a leading contender for Davis' services and just might be the possible front runner.

According to McNeil, "Davis has relatives in the Louisville area," and that could be a big positive for UofL in this recruitment.

McNeil said Davis has really matured and accepted responsibility for his actions since being suspended from the North High team as a junior.

"He's a great kid," McNeil said.

ITV will be following this recruitment very closely over the next few weeks.  Be sure to stay tuned for the latest on 7'0 285 James Davis!
