Meyer responds to Strong rumors

Urban Meyer has been preparing top-ranked Florida for Saturday's SEC Championship game against second-ranked Alabama. Off the field, he's also dealing with rumors that defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is headed to Louisville.

This isn't unfamiliar territory for Meyer, who lost offensive coordinator Dan Mullen to Mississippi State last year. Here's what Meyer said when asked about the possibility of losing Strong after tomorrow's game:

"I don't have a lot of thought about it, but next week obviously. We have lost five coaches here in the two years," Meyer said. "Charlie is not only a great coach, he is one my great friends."

Strong is a finalist for Broyles Award, awarded annually to the nation's top assistant coach. According to, Meyer has not discussed the possible job with Strong yet and doesn't expect to until after the Alabama game. Meyer said Strong and some of the other coaches are the types other schools look for.

"That doesn't help focus. That's just part of the business. There's two kinds of coaches: ones you want and ones you don't want. Unfortunately, I have a few people want," Meyer said.
