"He called me and it was from an unknown number and he said 'this is Coach Strong from Louisville," Weaver said. "He asked me how I was doing in school and he told me I still have my scholarship."
Weaver's impression of UofL's new coach?
"He seemed like a pretty good guy," said the nation's No. 66 running back prospect. "I've been waiting to talk to him ever since he got hired. I didn't know whether to call him or let him call me. He said he's going to set up a visit to where I come up there."
Weaver has no plans to consider other schools that were recruiting him before he suffered a knee injury this season.
"Ever since [Steve Kragthorpe] got fired I've been [worried] about my scholarship," said Weaver. "Now I know I've got my scholarship I don't have to worry about impressing another school."
Weaver said he's spoken with several of the Cards' other in-state commitments, who have also received phone calls from Strong this weekend.
"I talked to a couple of other guys and they told me [Strong] kept them as well," Weaver said. "I talked to Harris Bivin, Stephan Robinson and Dylan Curry. That's the only three [commits] I know he's kept so far. They were all excited because they were stressed about their scholarships also."
