"After they changed staffs at Texas Tech I didn't want to go there because the coaches I got to know weren't there anymore," Harvey said.
So the three-star linebacker began looking into his options. Harvey wanted to go to Alabama but the Crimson Tide didn't have room. So Alabama assistant Curt Cignetti put him in touch with Louisville assistant Mike Groh, who was a graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide last season.
While Harvey has been talking with Groh, he's yet to speak with Charlie Strong. He'll have an opportunity to meet the Louisville head coach this weekend when he drives up from Memphis for an official visit with the Cards.
"They've got a nice staff," Harvey said. "A lot of the coaches have won national championships. So I think it's going to be a good program."
Harvey visited hometown Memphis last week. He didn't consider Memphis when Tommy West was the coach but likes the new direction the Tigers are heading under new coach Larry Porter. Now, Harvey has to decide whether he wants to stay home or head to Louisville for college.
"The visit to Memphis was nice and I was highly impressed," Harvey said. "My family is telling me to leave [home] for school but everybody else is telling me to stay and help Memphis. There's a part of me that wants to leave and a part that wants to stay home, too. I want to get out and be on my own but I like Memphis and being here. It's something I'm going to have to pray about."
How will Harvey make his decision between the Tigers and Cardinals?
"It's just where I can see myself being happy," Harvey said. "Not everybody can make the NFL so I want to go to a college for four years where I can be happy and have fun. I want my college experience to be something I won't forget. I want to go there and have that home feeling. I know a lot of people that go to Memphis. I felt [comfortable] at Memphis."
Harvey could make a decision shortly after his visit to Louisville. "The only schools I'm talking to right now is Louisville and Memphis," said Harvey. "Unless something else happens those are the only schools I'm considering."
