The three-star defensive tackle from Miami (FL) Northwestern has repeatedly told Scout.com that the Cardinals were the favorite in his recruitment since taking an official visit to Louisville in early January.
Besides a strong relationship with Louisville coach Charlie Strong, Chandler also has three high school teammates who have committed to the Cardinals – WR Michaelee Harris, RB Corvin Lamb and OL Torrian Wilson. All three are expected to sign with Louisville this week.
"I definitely had a great time and the coaches made me feel so comfortable," Chandler told ESPN.com last week about his visit to UofL. "They are headed in the right direction and they were able to tell how I could fit into their plans. I'm real close to [current teammates and Louisville commits] Corvin [Lamb] and Michaelee [Harris] too. I'd love to continue to play with them."
Chandler was planning to visit South Carolina this weekend, but canceled to make a trip to USF. Chandler gave the Bulls a verbal commitment before Jim Leavitt was fired but re-opened his recruitment when USF changed coaches after the season.
Now, multiple sources, including a knowledgeable source at USF, indicate that Chandler may be leaning toward signing with the Bulls on Wednesday. Chandler made his official visit to USF this weekend accompanied by his mother and has a close relationship with Bulls assistant Larry Scott. Chandler also is a close friend of four-star Tampa CB Terrence Mitchell, who recently backed out of a commitment to FSU and will sign with USF.
Attempts to contact Chandler on Sunday were unsuccessful. His phone message said he would not return phone calls from reporters to talk about his recruitment until after signing day. His message also said that 'my recruiting process is over.'
