Tick, tock; Louisville awaits decisions

The clock is winding down and National Signing Day is now less than 48 hours away. Though Charlie Strong has already lined up one of the top classes in the Big East, the Louisville coach continues to wait on decisions from several key targets. InsideTheVille.com has the latest.

Dominique Brown, three-star quarterback, Cincinnati (OH) Winton Woods
Dominique Brown narrowed his list to Ohio State, Cincinnati and Louisville before visiting the Cardinals this weekend. The word is Brown's visit to Louisville went great and it appears the Cardinals are in the driver's seat heading into National Signing Day. A report on Bucknuts.com, the leading Ohio State website, says Brown verbally committed to Louisville over the weekend.

Brown hasn't talked about his decision publicly since last week and wasn't taking or returning calls from reporters Sunday. Troy Everhart, Brown's coach, told InsideTheVille.com Monday morning that he had "no comment" about the report from Bucknuts.com. Everhart said he would meet with Brown and his parents Monday to finalize a decision. Brown will sign a LOI early Wednesday and a signing day ceremony at his school will be held at noon.

BUZZ: All signs point to Louisville, who targeted the talented athlete as their No. 1 quarterback recruit.

UPDATE: Brown's coach confirmed his commitment to Louisville Monday morning.

Todd Chandler, three-star defensive tackle, miami (FL) Northwestern
Chandler appeared a lock to sign with Louisville. That is until a surprise visit to USF this weekend. Chandler visited Louisville in early January and repeatedly stated the Cardinals were his leader. Chandler canceled a visit to South Carolina and instead visited USF with his mother this weekend.

That's when the fun began. Word started to leak out Sunday night following his visit that the Bulls had jumped ahead of the Cardinals in the race to land Chandler's signature on Wednesday. Chandler spoke briefly with the South Florida Scout.com website Sunday night but didn't offer any insight into which way he's leaning.

BUZZ: Officially, Chandler is down to four programs - Louisville, USF, Syracuse and Colorado State. In reality, it's a battle between Louisville and South Florida. While the buzz following his visit to USF centered around the Bulls possibly taking the lead late, sources at Louisville still sounded confident Monday morning. Three of Chandler's Northwestern teammates are expected to sign with Louisville this week. Will the three-star prospect make four? If nothing else, there's now plenty of drama surrounding Chandler's decision.

kadron boone, four-star wide receiver, Ocala (FL) trinity catholic
Louisville appeared in solid position with Boone before the four-star wide receiver made a final visit to LSU over the weekend. Boone gave his visit into SEC country a "perfect 10" and many sources Sunday were ready to sign him off to the Tigers. Boone also visited West Virginia and Georgia, but many believe Boone's decision will come down to LSU and Louisville.

"LSU made a great impression, and I can say that they are in a really good spot," Boone told the LSU Scout.com site. "I just need to think over things with my family and coaches, and then I will feel comfortable making the decision for signing day."

BUZZ: While the signs point to LSU, Louisville isn't ready to write him off just yet. Conventional wisdom says he's SEC-bound, but Boone didn't commit to LSU on his visit, potentially still leaving the door open for the Cardinals. We'll continue to track Boone until he announces a decision.

preston brown, three-star linebacker, Cincinnati Northwest
Brown is down to three schools - Louisville, Cincinnati and Minnesota. It appears the decision is between hometown Cincinnati and Louisville. Louisville has worked Brown hard recently and Charlie Strong has clearly pegged him as a key defensive target. Brown committed to Cincinnati before his junior year but Louisville is trying to switch him after Brian Kelly departed for Notre Dame. Both of Louisville's coordinators visited him last week and made a strong impression.

"I got a lot of my questions answered," Brown said. "I just wanted to know more about the defense, where I would play and how they were going to use me. They said I'd be middle but they'd move me around and try to utilize me [different ways]. They said they've got about two [scholarships] left now but they'll save one for me. They said they'll wait for me until the end – me and Dominique Brown."

Brown continues to play his recruitment close to vest, but told InsideTheVille.com Friday night that he would likely go to the same school as Dominique Brown. Brown is planning a signing day announcement at his school.

BUZZ: Despite a report last week from a Cincinnati website that Brown would keep his commitment to the Bearcats, InsideTheVille.com continues to hear that Louisville is in position to sign Brown on National Signing Day.
