Coach Morton talks about Telfair recruitment

Lincoln High School Head Coach Dwayne Morton spoke with Inside Thursday afternoon and gave an update on his star player and top University of Louisville recruiting target, Sebastian Telfair.

Led by Telfair, Lincoln is 26-4 this season in New York City's tough public school league.  The Railsplitters are fresh off a championship win in the Brooklyn Borough over Banneker High School last week and have now advanced to the quarterfinals of the PSAL playoffs.

Coach Morton downplayed rumors about Sebastian's recruitment but did give an indication of what Bassy is looking for in a college.

"He's looking for a coach that will push him and let him showcase his talent and play his game," Morton said.

Morton said that Telfair, considered the top point guard prospect in the nation in the class of 2004 by many recruiting analysts, "has a tremendous work ethic and is serious about the game of basketball."

When asked if Sebastian would make a college decision at the Adidas ABCD this summer, ala current Cardinal forward Francisco Garcia, Morton indicated that he thought Bassy would wait until the fall and take his visits.

"I want him to go see the people and get to know the players and coaches," Morton explained. "He needs to see how they live before he decides to choose that school," Morton added.

Morton, who coaches the Juice All Stars on the adidas AAU circuit will boast a very talented team led by Telfair this spring.  The Juice All Stars will also have talented Lincoln sophomores, 6'7 Antonio Pena and 6'3 Nyan Boateng, two of the best players in the class of 2005.

Morton said Juice will play in the adidas event in Houston and also at the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas in July.

Although Morton was tight lipped about Telfair's recruitment, he may have given a sign about Bassy's leanings toward the end of our conversation.  When asked if his AAU team would be playing near Louisville this spring, Morton inquired if there were any high profile events in Louisville that Lincoln could play next season.  And of course the King of Bluegrass tournament was discussed at length.

So stay tuned, we just might see Bassy leading Lincoln at next years King of the Bluegrass before he dons the Cardinal red and black.  We'll see and ITV will keep you up to date on Bassy's recruitment.
