Carvajal, who caught seven touchdown passes last season at American H.S., is receiving a lot of attention from Charlie Strong's program and recently spoke with the Louisville head coach.
"I spoke to Louisville and Coach Strong-he's a real nice guy," Carvajal said. "He told me what college is all about and what I've got to do to step up to the next league and all of that. Louisville is one of the teams showing the most interest in me. [I'm] really interested in them because I used to watch them and they had a real good team 2 or 3 years ago. So I'm keeping my eyes on Louisville and [have them] in my Top 5."
Carvajal, who will play for Hialeah Senior next season, also played defense as a junior, recording four sacks as a defensive end.
"[Louisville] saw my film and asked me what do I like to play, offense or defense because I also play defensive end, but I told them it really don't matter to me, I'll play whatever," said Carvajal. "What I'm looking [at] is the depth chart; If I can play as soon as I come up as a freshman and I'm also looking at....graduation rates. I've got a 2.5 right now, but I'm working on definitely bringing them up though."
This spring, Carvajal is focused on improving his speed and strength.
"Right now I'm just focused on getting better and I want to be one of the top tight ends in the nation," Carvajal said. "I want to work on my speed and footwork so I can get off the ball a little bit faster so I can get a little more separation from the DB's and linebackers. Also I've been drinking a lot of protein shakes so I can gain a lot of weight and I'm also getting stronger at the same time and it's working. I'm 215-pounds and 6'7."
So when will Carvajal decide? Who will he choose?
"I'm pretty open-minded, but...I don't know when I'm going to make my final decision," Carvajal said. "This summer I'm planning to visit Purdue in June and also the [Wisconsin] Badgers 7-on-7 then we're going down to Alabama in July. [And] I think we're going to go through all the other [in-state] colleges real fast like USF, UCF, FSU, and Florida."
Is Carvajal thinking about visiting Louisville this summer, too? "Louisville's in my Top 5," said Carvajal. "I want to visit Louisville, but it's probably 50/50 because my parents are willing to buy me a ticket, but they're letting me visit Purdue, so we'll have to see. I might let them buy me a ticket to visit Louisville."
