Since Bedford's visit last month, Knowles and the Louisville assistant coach have kept in contact. Bedford clearly has interest in the under radar lineman and the Cardinals coaching staff will get an opportunity to check out Knowles closely this weekend when he's on campus to attend Louisville's camp.
"I'm going up there this weekend," Knowles said. "They've talked about it [offering] but they haven't officially [offered]. I've talked to Coach Bedford and the offensive line coach. I've talked to him [Bedford] on the phone six or seven times and we talked about how I would fit in there. He talked offering because he said not a lot of kids my size are as athletic as I am."
Louisville is in the market for an athletic left tackle and Knowles could fit that mold. He is excited about investigating the Cardinals this weekend. "I'm very interested in Louisville," Knowles said. "I really want to go up and see the campus. I want to see how the campus life is and experience it because it's a big school in a big conference. So I'm really excited about that."
He's also looking forward to working out with Dave Borbely, Louisville's offensive line coach.
"I've talked to him twice and he sounds very excited about me," Knowles said. "I sent my highlight tape to him. When Coach Bedford came down he took a picture of me standing next to another kid. I'm 6'6, so I'm pretty big. And the offensive line coach was thrilled because he said he's trying to take linemen all over 6'5 who can move. He said he would love to get me up there and put me through some drills."
Despite his size, athleticism and promise, Knowles is still looking for his first offer. He visited TCU, Texas A&M, SMU, Houston and Rice this spring and he plans to attend camps at Houston and Oklahoma State this summer. Though he's visited all Texas schools this spring, Knowles seems willing to give Louisville serious consideration if they place an offer on the table.
"I am willing to go out of state," Knowles said. "Five schools have talked to me about offering. Louisville's talked to me and they're probably the highest. Duke and Rice have talked about it and just want me to raise my SAT score to 1,700. I'm about 1,500. SMU has talked about offering and was impressed after their camp. Houston came up to my spring game and called the morning after and said I was impressive. They want me to come up to their camp and I'm going up there."
