Jenkins leads team to district title
University of Louisville signee Brandon Jenkins is having a great post season. Jenkins, Louisville's projected starting point guard next season, led his Detroit Southeastern Jungaleers to the Class A 20th District championship last night at Grosse Point South.
Southeastern defeated highly ranked Detroit Denby (18-3) 51-47 behind Jenkins team high 17 points. Denby, who had defeated Southeastern twice during the regular season, jumped out to an early 19-7 lead on Jenkins' Southeastern team.
That's when Jenkins took over. The 6'3 point guard scored seven second quarter points to narrow the Denby lead to 29-23 at the half. And with just 50 seconds left to play in the game, Jenkins threw down a dunk off the fast break to give the Jungaleers the lead for good at 48-47.
"That's all Coach (Ballard) kept saying to us when we came through the huddle, 'Don't let this be your last game. Leave it all on the floor," Jenkins told the Detroit Free Press. "We played good. Coming down the stretch, we just bugged it up, rebounded and played defense."
With the win over Denby, Southeastern advances to play Sterling Heights Stevenson next week at Troy Athens.
