Stone forced to sit against Charlotte
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Based upon a rules interpretation received today from the NCAA, University of Louisville senior center Marvin Stone will be withheld from competition from the Cardinals' March 8 regular season finale against Charlotte in Freedom Hall.
Due to the ongoing nature of the matter, university officials cannot discuss details of the case.
"We're obviously extremely disappointed with the ruling," said U of L Director of Athletics Tom Jurich. "For this to happen on senior night to a team already shorthanded is extremely disappointing. We will continue to pursue all avenues of the case."
Stone also sat out U of L's 82-76 victory over East Carolina on March 1 while issues concerning his amateur status were being addressed.
Stone has started 19 games for the 20-6 Cardinals. He is among the Conference USA leaders in scoring (10.6 points per game, 30th in C-USA), field goal percentage (.510, 7th), rebounding (7.4, 10th) and blocked shots (1.7, 3rd).
Following Saturday's game, U of L will participate in the 2003 Kelly Tires Conference USA Tournament March 12-15 in Louisville's Freedom Hall. Pairings for the tournament will be announced following Saturday's games.
