An athletic 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect with 4.6 forty-yard speed, Gonzalez now holds offers from Louisville, Central Michigan, FIU, Georgia Southern, Iowa State, Minnesota, New Mexico, Purdue, Washington State, and Western Kentucky, among others.
"Louisville just offered me," Gonzalez said. "I've heard good things about Louisville, but I haven't had a chance to check them out too much. I've talked to Coach [Kenny] Carter a couple of times. He told me that I have a big body and I could be a big wide receiver for them and all the jump balls would come to me because I'm the type of receiver who goes up and gets the ball."
Rated one of the Top 60 prospects in Florida by SunStateFootball.com, Gonzalez, who also plays safety, caught 40 passes for 599 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior, while also recording more than 40 tackles and one interception on defense.
"I've talked to Rutgers a little, but Louisville is my first Big East offer," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez isn't rushing a college decision, choosing instead to prepare for another run at the Florida 2A state championship. Gonzalez said he's planning to take his official visits in December at the conclusion of his senior season.
"Right now I'm just focused on helping my team because we were close to winning a state championship last year," Gonzalez said. "I think about recruiting but I probably will wait until after the season to narrow it down to a top five."
