Telfair leads Lincoln to PSAL title
Sebastian Telfair led the Lincoln High Railsplitters to its second consecutive New York City Public School Athletic League title yesterday over Brooklyn rival Banneker High, 75-69 at Madison Square Garden.
Lincoln, who had earlier defeated Banneker to claim the Brooklyn Borough title, became the first team in over a decade to win consecutive PSAL championships.
Telfair, the University of Louisville's top recruiting target, scored a game high 33 points and hit two crucial free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory for Lincoln.
"Our experience definitely helped," Telfair told the NY Post. "Down the stretch, we didn't get nervous and they did. That was the difference."
"We've played in tough games before and this was a tough game," said the flashy Telfair, who sported a fur coat after the game. "When we're in those kinds of games, I want the ball in the fourth quarter."
Telfair and Lincoln now advance to play for the New York Federated State title in Albany.
"We haven't finished yet," Telfair said. "We've got to win upstate to prove that we're the best."
