Statement on Tiger Stadium seating

LSU issued the following statements Wednesday from Athletics Director Skip Bertman and Chancellor Mark Emmert regarding seating in Tiger Stadium and LSU's plan for future development of athletics facilities:

SKIP BERTMAN, LSU Director of Athletics:

"LSU had planned to ask the state legislature this year to repeal the statute that restricts the number of seats in athletic venues that can be resold by private foundations.  After numerous meetings over the course of the last seven months with season ticket holders, legislators, focus groups, athletic administrators at other SEC schools, and many other supporters of LSU, we have gathered valuable insight and information that will help us determine how we should best proceed with plans for capital construction development for LSU Athletics.  Instead of currently pursuing this legislative change, we have decided to explore alternative funding and construction options that are available to us under current law."

MARK EMMERT, LSU Chancellor:

"Not moving forward with the legislative process at this time does not minimize the problems that face LSU Athletics, nor does it change our commitment to build and renovate LSU's athletics facilities.  We remain vigilant in our quest to find the most equitable solution to our facility financing issues and to expeditiously determine the best avenue for the long-term future of LSU and our athletics program."
