Burkholder, a Houston, Texas, native shattered an eight-year old school
record in the all-around scoring an eye-popping 39.875 in the Tigers'
tri-meet victory over in-state foe Centenary and Texas Woman's last Friday.
Burkholder's mark, which ranks No. 1 in the SEC this season, bettered the
previous school record of 39.750 set by Jennifer Wood in 1995.
Burkholder also led the Tigers to a school record 49.600 performance on the
floor exercise, scoring a perfect 10.000 on the event. She became just the
third athlete in LSU history to record a 10.000 on the floor and the eighth
athlete in school history to post a 10.000 on any event.
The Carver High School product, also notched career-high marks on the uneven bars (9.950) and the beam (9.975), in addition to turning in her second best score of the season on the vault (9.950).
For her outstanding marks, Burkholder was rewarded with gold on each of the four events and in the all-around. It marked the second time this season she had accomplished such a feat, as she also brought home five first-place finishes from LSU's meet with Auburn on Jan. 24.
Burkholder and the rest of the 12th-ranked LSU gymnastics team return to
action Saturday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the SEC Championships.
